Frequently asked questions.

What should I wear to a lesson?

Closed toe, well fitting boots, jeans , and a comfortable top are a must. We always dress for the weather and prepare to get dirty. Helmets will be provided, or you can bring your own. If you bring your own helmet it must be ASTM/SEI certified for equestrian sports. Helmets must be worn when in the riding arena with the horses, mounted or unmounted.

How do I know if my child is ready to begin horsemanship lessons?

Children must be at least 4 years old and be able to follow basic rules. Children must show the horses respect at all times. Any aggressive or rough behaviors will not be tolerated. Horses can be unpredictable, so listening and following rules to keep everyone safe is of the utmost importance.

What if the weather is bad on the day of my lesson?

In the event of inclement weather, we will contact you and a make up day will be offered. Inclement weather such as heavy rain, snow, sleet, high winds, thunderstorms or high temperatures may warrant rescheduling of a lesson.

May I stay with my child for the lesson?

Of course! We have a comfortable patio overlooking our outdoor arena where you’re welcomed to spectate. Due to insurance purposes spectators are not permitted in the riding arena during a lesson.

Are equine related lessons dangerous?

In short, yes, they can be, but the purpose of our program is to create educated, mindful and aware horsemen/women so the risks of the sport are greatly diminished. There is always an inherent risk when dealing with horses, but we can confidently say ours are well trained and fit for the jobs we’re asking them to do. An Equine Hold Harmless Release of Liability Form for every student must be signed prior to starting our programs.

Can I bring my dog?

No pets are allowed on the property. This is for the safety of our students, horses and your pets.

Do students have the opportunity to advance to horse shows?

At this time, no, we do not consider ourselves a show barn, nor is that the goal of our program.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash or checks made out to Sonrise Ranch LLC.
